COLLEGE READINESS RETREAT 2021

SPARK hosted our first College Readiness Retreat in August of 2021. The program provided first-time college students with a survival kit to prepare them for their first year of college. Participants were aligned with a peer mentor with recent experience as a first-generation college student. As a part of the program, participants participated in a “What would I do” 15 minutes zoom call with a Small Business owner. Matches also completed several team-building exercises to strengthen their connection and show their mentee that they will be invested in ensuring their success in college.

In 2020, the organization partnered with city officials and community activist groups to assist in hosting and sponsoring the city’s annual toy drive. The toy drive provided over two hundred children with a joyous Christmas experience and a free toy. SPARK assisted with this project because we believe that Christmas is a memorable holiday, and no child, regardless of their economic status, should be deprived of a wonderful Christmas season.
